PhD Title: Comparative  Study of the Acoustical Characteristics and Vocal Timber Nuances of the Cretan Rizitika Singing Idiom

 

Abstract: Folk singing style at the island of Crete is represented by Rizitiko singing. Although Rizitiko is spread all over the island there is differentiation between different regions of Crete, due to ariculation of speech and the pronunciation of idiomatic diphone that each Cretan region adopts .

 

The main objective of this research and comparative study is to result as a guide, “mapping” all the Acoustical Characteristics such as position of Formant frequencies during singing and formant tuning, vibrato rate and extend, voice loudness registro and pitch, the playfulness among different vowels that differentiate the singing style of the Cretan Rizitiko between four (4) regions of Crete.
